Designers

As designers, we may face landscape or architectural requests and problems involving green roofs where the solution is not obvious or leaves us uncertain. The websites of companies specialising in the field can offer superficial help, but certainly not an independent solution. If you are unsure about the build-up, materials, growing media or planting technology of a green roof, it is worth consulting an expert.

The literature on planting green roofs is fairly limited and not up to date. To achieve the look you have envisaged, careful plant selection has to go hand in hand with the right growing medium and precise maintenance guidelines.

Existing buildings, or those with unusual structures, often call for bespoke solutions that may depart from standard practice; in such cases practical experience is key to determining how far these modifications can go.

As part of our consulting service, we offer:

  • refining concepts and sketch designs
  • developing green roof build-ups
  • designing green roof junctions and details
  • preparing planting plans for both ground-level gardens and roof gardens
